The Dr. Demento Show - Audio Torture Chamber

This was a special feature that ran on the show during 1987, but grew out of something occasionally featured on his KMET show in the 70s: The Bottom Nine (as opposed to the top ten).

The Audio Torture Chamber featured the worst records ever made. It did not feature homemade tapes sent in by listeners that were just made to be awful. The point was to feature things that people paid to have recorded and pressed up, with the intention that people would buy them.

It ran every week for the first 19 weeks of 1987, and then on average every other week for the rest of the year, for a total of 34 visits, or about 2/3 of the weeks that year.

Over the next few years, it only appeared once a year 1988-1991, except twice in 1990 but once was a selection originally featured in 1987. After that it popped up occasionally with repeats until returning with new items on one show in 2015, 3 shows in 2018, and 8 shows in 2019. There may be more in the future.

This listing covers the 38 visits from the original 1987-1991 run.
