- The Demented News made its debut on March 8, 1987, on the KLSX (Los Angeles) version of "The Dr. Demento Show". It became a regular feature on the syndicated version of the show starting with episode 92-36.
- Nearly every week, new stories are covered, using sound bites from various sources. This style was partially inspired by Dickie Goodman, but more directly by KMPC sports announcer Jim Healy.
